For this assignment, I chose an article targeted to Jennifer Lopez's loss of an Oscar for her performance in "Hustlers." I'm not too fond of this article based on Jennifer Lopez's loss. While watching the movie, I noticed that she did a great job interpreting that specific character, but I wasn't necessarily crazy on her performance; I do, however, appreciate the fact that the article does touch on the lack of representation Latina women have in Hollywood, which I think needs to be brought to light more often.
In conclusion, the reason why I believe this article is worth being shared is because it identifies a problem that not many people are talking about by using a reasonable example in a movie that has premiered recently. The representation of Latina women in Hollywood has always been a controversial topic, but it has been a controversial topic people ignore.
This article touches on many different examples of how the work Latina women do never to be enough for Hollywood, and it uses the fact that upon her performance in the film, she was nominated for many awards that she did not win during the Oscars.
This loss made people feel like Lopez was robbed from the award and began explaining the disadvantages actress of color, specifically Latin women go through as they try to pursue a career in Hollywood. I believe that the conversation of unfair treatment, pay, and representation, in general, was the exposure this situation needs to inspire many directors and/or movie producers to do a better job in the future. The way the author expressed the problem and the unjustice the Latinx community goes through in the industry was enough for me to realize this article was worth the share.
